Translating soil science into practical, scalable solutions for regenerative agriculture, food security and climate adaptation
WHY
Regenerative agriculture is at the heart of everything we do. It is more than a set of practices: it is a science‑led way of farming that treats soil as a living, self‑organising system, capable of rebuilding its own structure, fertility and resilience when we work with the system instead of against it. By restoring soil organic matter that drives microbial communities, nutrient and water cycles, regenerative approaches can improve yields and input‑use efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and buffer farms against climate and market shocks.
OUR OFFER
We help farmers, supply‑chain partners and policymakers make confident decisions about regenerative transitions, grounded in frontier soil microbiology and long‑term field evidence. Our work ranges from designing on‑farm trials and soil health monitoring frameworks to advising on nutrient circularity, carbon schemes and the unintended consequences of land‑use change, ensuring that “regenerative” delivers tangible outcomes rather than just a label.
IMPACT
We advise farmer groups, food businesses, NGOs and governments on soil health, carbon and regenerative practice, and have contributed to major reports on the future of regenerative agriculture in the UK and beyond. Through conferences, workshops and media, we connect cutting‑edge research with the people making day‑to‑day decisions in fields, boardrooms and policy forums, building a shared understanding of how healthy soils can support a more resilient and rewarding food system for everyone.
Founding Partners
“At Yeo Valley we’ve always believed that it’s possible to produce natural, heathy, affordable food whilst also generating positive outcomes for nature, climate and health. All of this starts with healthy soil, rather than a reliance on oil.
Research into nature-based solutions remains under-funded so we’re excited to see the launch of the Centre for Dynamic Soils, and the opportunity to build stronger evidence for progressive, nature-based farming. We hope the Centre will help demonstrate the full value of agroecological farming and its role in sustainable, healthy and affordable food”.
Tim Mead, Yeo Valley
"As co-founders of the Centre for Dynamic Soils, we are proud to share a common interest in the vital importance of soil for building resilience, aiding biodiversity recovery, and mitigating the effects of more extreme weather. The centre's main aim - to conduct scientific research that advances practical action - aligns with our goal at Waitrose to support British farmers and growers in adopting more resilient regenerative farming practices."
Andrew Hoad, Director of Leckford, Waitrose
